Seminar on substance abuse for church leaders

Keeping in mind the rampant rise of substance abuse cases in Kiphire district, the Baptist Pastors’ Fellowship (BPF) of Kiphire town organised a two-day seminar on “substance abuse prevention” from June 9-10 with an objective to create awareness among church leaders on addressing the issue effectively.
The resource persons for the programme were psychiatrist & chairman, Kohima Educational Society, Dr. Phyobemo Ngully and freelance social worker, Dimapur Maong Jamir.
Dr. Ngully emphasised on mental health and healing while Jamir discussed the dynamics of substance abuse and roles of the church.
At the programme, the participants unanimously resolved to organise primary prevention programmes among children and youth and to extend care for those who were sick from substance use disorders.
The seminar was initiated and sponsored by Baptist Pastors’ fellowship Kiphire Town. Altogether 68 church leaders participated in the seminar.
