Sensitisation workshop on TB held in Kohima

With the objective to build a concerted effort towards Tuberculosis (TB) elimination in the state, a sensitization workshop on TB was held on November 15 at the Rongmei Community Hall, Nagabazar.
A press release by ARK Foundation informed that the seminar was organised by ARK Foundation in with Nagabazar Youth Organization (NYO) supported by the National Tuberculosis Elimination Programme (NTEP) Nagaland.
At the seminar, resource person, ARK Foundation president, Ketho Angami lamented that a large part of the community remained ignorant of the disease thus making it difficult to response to this public health threat. He said such ignorance has resulted in fear against TB and stigmatization among the community.
He briefed the gathering on the mode of transmission, some signs and symptoms of TB, and about the different kinds of TB such as drug sensitive TB, Multidrug-resistant TB (MDR-TB), extensively drug resistant TB (XDR-TB).
Angami informed that basing on the type of the TB, treatment was being provided by the government. He then added that TB was fully curable if the proper diagnosis and the treatment were taken.
The resource person urged the participants not to stigmatise nor discriminate people with TB but rather to facilitate in getting the proper treatment, and also to create awareness on TB among the community.
