Shah arrives in Imphal on two-day visit to Manipur


Union home minister Amit Shah arrived in Imphal on Thursday evening on a two-day visit to Manipur.
The Union minister was earlier scheduled for a one-day visit on Friday. He, however, landed at Imphal Airport by a special flight from Agartala on Thursday evening.
A high level delegation led by chief minister N Biren Singh accorded Shah a warm welcome on his arrival at Imphal Airport.
Union minister of state for external affairs and education RK Ranjan, some ministers, MLAs of ruling parties and senior government and police officers were among others who received the visiting Union minister.
The state government hosted a cultural programme in Imphal’s City Convention Centre to welcome Shah.
On the second and last day of his visit, the Union home minister will inaugurate and lay foundation stones of several projects in the state before leaving for Kohima (Nagaland).
A government source said that Shah will inaugurate and lay foundation stones for 21 projects worth Rs 1,311 crore on Friday.
Projects to be inaugurated included Churachandpur Medical College (State Compound) in Churachandpur district, Manipur Olympian Park at Sangaithel in Imphal East, development of cave tourism project at Khangkhui Cave in Ukhrul district, among others.
Shah will unveil the 120-feet statue of a polo player riding a pony developed at Heingang Marjing Hill in Imphal East district and also hoist the national flag at the heritage site of INA headquarters at Moirang of Bishnupur district.
Earlier in the day, the chief minister inspected the INA headquarters in Bishnupur district and Marjing Statue Complex in Imphal East district ahead of Shah’s visit.
Meanwhile, security has been beefed up in the state in view of the visit of the Union home minister.
As a part of security measures, authorities of the state government ordered “no fly zone for drones and UAV” as well as clearing up of unattended vehicles and construction materials along the route and site where Shah is set to travel.
