Shah blasts ex-CMs for Meghalaya’s under- development

Correspondent

On his second day of campaigning in poll-bound Meghalaya, Union Home Minister and senior BJP leader, Amit Shah on Friday lambasted incumbent Chief Minister Conrad Sangma and former Chief Minister Dr. Mukul Sangma, saying none of them had brought about any significant development in the state and accused the duo of concentrating on their respective families instead.
“Meghalaya has been ruled by two families for many years. Mukul Sangma ruled for many years and Conrad Sangma ruled for many years. Both the families have eaten the money of the poor of Meghalaya by doing corruption. Now the time has come to liberate Meghalaya from both the families,” he said at an election rally at Rangsakona and Dalu assembly constituencies respectively in West Garo Hills district.
The BJP leader said that time has come to get rid of these two families from Meghalaya and to make the BJP government under the leadership and guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
“Once the BJP government is formed in the state, we will offer jobs in the most transparent manner and help poor and deserving candidates get jobs. All those who siphoned off money meant for the poor people of Meghalaya, they all need to be probed thoroughly,” he said.
“Once the BJP government is formed in the state a committee led by Supreme Court judge will probe all the corruption cases and all culprits will be put behind the bar by following all norms laid down by our Constitution,” the Home Minister promised in presence of Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, who too addressed the election meeting.
Sarma was the “architect” for the formation of the outgoing National People’s Party-led Meghalaya Democratic Alliance government after the State elections in 2018.
Attacking veteran Congress-turned Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader, Dr. Mukul Sangma, Shah said, “. Mukul Sangma is in fray this time after changing his name. Earlier they were in the Congress party and now he is in TMC. Just look at West Bengal, the condition there is even worse than Meghalaya. In West Bengal, Tolabazi, cut money, corruption, lawlessness and crime is at its peak. If the people of Meghalaya choose Mukul Sangma he will establish the rule of Tolabazi, cut money, corruption, lawlessness and crime in Meghalaya also.”
Stating that Meghalaya is registering the least development and highest degree of corruption in India, the BJP leader appealed to the electorates, “You all should vote for the BJP for ensuring prosperity, for ensuring development,” Shah appealed to the electorates.”
“There has been utmost transparency in the selection processes of government jobs in Tripura, Assam and other BJP-ruled States. But here in Meghalaya, you have to either pay a bribe or have to share relations with these ‘two families’ in order to get a government job,” Shah said.
“BJP will do the work of taking Meghalaya and its youth forward. Go to Assam, and realize what development means. Every aspect of development can be seen in Assam, be it the roads, ration, housing facilities, electricity or water,” Shah said.
“Modi had sent money to Meghalaya also, but the corruption in the State looted away all the money leaving the people deprived of any development, and prosperity. Modi sends money to Meghalaya, but these facilities do not reach you because Sangma ji has blocked all the ways to reach you. Change the government once, all the facilities will reach you,” he iterated.
“There has been no development and no prosperity in Meghalaya so far. The time has come to relieve the State from the corrupt rule, and to bring the BJP to power under the leadership of Modi,” he appealed.
“Wherever the BJP formed the government, it ended corruption in government jobs. In Meghalaya too, after the formation of the BJP government, work will be done to end corruption and provide jobs to the poor,” he said.
“When Modi became Prime Minister in 2014, the whole North East region was infested with insurgency and violence was persistent everywhere. We laid the foundation for a peaceful North East through our reforms and over 8,000 youths have joined the mainstream,” the senior BJP leader said.
