SLMS meet on Covid vaccination in Kohima

State Level Multi Stakeholder (SLMS) held a meeting with representatives from different churches, student leaders, youth leaders, women leaders, NGOs and development partner UNICEF on January 29 at LCS building, Kohima.
A press release by medical department stated that the meeting was conducted under the theme, “To amplify the Government’s Covid-19 Vaccination” by Indian Social Responsibility Network (ISRN), John Snow India (JSI) in collaboration with department of Health and Family Welfare (H&FW).
In a keynote address, State Project Manager, John Snow India, EgumsingNsarangbe said it was social responsibility of every individual present and more as a leader to understand the present Covid scenario, the importance of vaccines and to educate the people who were misinformed and misled by various false news.
He told the gathering that it was high time to understand the situation and play their part as leaders.
In a PowerPoint presentation, State Immunization Officer (SIO) health department, Dr Ritu Thurr spoke on Covid -19 vaccine prioritization in India, how and when exactly the largest vaccine drive was rolled out for different category of people and also presented the district wise and state coverage.
Dr.Ritu also spoke on Adverse Event Following Immunization (AEFI) status as per COWIN, reasons for comparatively low rate of vaccine uptake in Nagaland, steps taken to increase vaccine uptake in far flung areas in Nagaland districts.
He also thanked ISRN an NGO empanelled by John Snow India (JSI) and many other NGOs who are assisting and supporting the department in amplifying Covid vaccination in the state. Dr Ritu Thurr also spoke on the steps taken to reduce vaccine hesitancy in Nagaland.
The programme was chaired by state coordinator ISRN, Martha Dukru; communication officer JSI, Rose, facilitated the productive discussion hour; invocation was said by pastor Kughavi from Nagaland Christian Revival Church and vote of thanks was delivered by monitoring and evaluation officer JSI, Kawang Lowang.
