Social Awareness & Action Plan campaign launched in Zunheboto

Social Awareness & Action Plan to Neutralise Pneumonia Successfully (SAANS) campaign was launched on November 16 at the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Zunheboto office by Deputy Commissioner (DC) Zunheboto, Rahul Bhanudas Mali.
A press release by CMO Zunheboto informed that DPO (RCH & UIP), Dr. Heto Swu briefed the gathering about the purpose of the campaign, which was to accelerate action to reduce infant deaths due to Childhood pneumonia.
In a keynote address, deputy CMO Zunheboto, Dr. K. Akaho Sema stated that pneumonia was still considered as one of the infectious disease killers of childhood and causes a major public health problem.
Dr. Akaho said malnutrition, measles, pollution, nonexclusive breastfeeding are all contributing factors for developing pneumonia. He also elaborated on the preventive measures to tackle pneumonia.
In a short speech, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Rahul Bhanudas Mali requested the CMO office to provide records and data of infant mortality rate in the district because of pneumonia after the campaign.
He appealed to the department to create more awareness and reach out to the public, and also list out health units which provide PCV vaccine so that the public could avail to the quality service.
