In the meeting, KU, KU (Tizit) and TASU resolved to approach the Cease-fire Monitoring Cell to direct/instruct cadres to restrain their activities of illegal taxation and harassment to public. KU, KU (Tizit) and TASU also reassured of their support for any security measures to be taken up by the administration and police in restoring peace and tranquility, said the press release.
Sonari blockade affects Mon dist
Economic blockade imposed by Sonari Truck Owner Association (STOA), Sivasagar, Assam since September 3 has affected the supply of essential commodities to Mon district.
According to a press release issued by Tizit extra assistant commissioner S. Athsangla, STOA imposed an indefinite economic blockade in protest against “illegal tax collection” in different forms and physical harassment to truckers especially carrying essential commodities reportedly by NSCN (I-M) and GPRN/NSCN as reported in their representation endorsed to DC Mon, SP Mon, SP Mon ADC Tizit and KU apex body.
To discuss the fallout of the economic blockade, a meeting was held with Assam counterparts in Sonari on August 3 attended by ADC and SDPO of Tizit with the objective to amicably resolve the issue and lifting of the blockade with immediate effect. Another meeting was held at DC’s office chamber Mon the next day attended by KU apex body, KU (Tizit), TASU and ADC of Tizit.
