Special lecture on Critical Thinking at SJU

PG and Research Department of English, St. Joseph University (SJU), conducted fourth lecture in the English Lecture Series in “Interdisciplinary / Trans-discursive Critical Thinking”, on January 22. The series was aimed at promoting development of critical thinking abilities and nurturing the art of questioning.
A press release by SJU stated that speaker, Assistant Professor of English, Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda College, Chennai, Dr V Vijayalayan delivered detailed lecture on concept and idea of “disability” from psychological perspective, highlighting on Sigmund Freud’s psychoanalysis and how Jacques Lacan had taken forward the theory of psychoanalysis and disability. He mentioned how disabled people were viewed, characterized, and perceived in society in prejudicial way, lamenting that society was very much in favor of disabled people.
The release added that HoD English department, SJU, Dr. Thokchom Sunanda Devi presided the session, while Assistant Professor, SJU, Betina Vashi, moderated the lecture.
Assistant Professor, SJU, Imlisungla Pongen offered invocation, while Prof. Selvin Vedamanickam initiated the lecture introducing the theme of the special lecture series and explained what was critical thinking, interdisciplinary and trans-discursively.
