State govt taking care of Meluri district demand: Gov

Nagaland governor Prof. Jagdish Mukhi on Saturday said that the state government was taking care of the demand for upgradation of Meluri sub-division to district.
Prof. Mukhi, who visited Avankhung village, under Meluri sub-division, Phek district on October 29, held a series of interactions and meetings with the district officers from various departments, NGOs/Hohos of Pochuri tribe.
During the meeting, when the Pochury Hoho’s demand for upgradation of Meluri sub-division to district was raised, the governor informed that since it was State subject, the state government was taking care of the demand.
Governor urged upon Pochury Hoho and Pochury Women Hoho to preserve own culture and tradition, which he said was “utmost important for our future.”
According to a DIPR report, the governor, during his meeting with departments at Avangkhu, asked officials to handle the developmental flagship policies with sincerity for the upliftment of farmers’ income.
He also inquired about the implementation of Jal Jeevan Mission for drinking water supply, rural housing schemes, rural electrification programmes, policy for doubling farmers income, education policies, etc.
On education system, governor stated said that children up to primary standard should be taught in mother tongue and impart own culture and tradition.
In agriculture sector, governor asked the concerned department officers and district administration to monitor whether the farmers’ income was increasing through flagship schemes.
During his meeting with police and Assam Rifles, the governor stressed the need for proper security along the state and international border.
Earlier, governor on arrival at helipad Avangkhu, was briefed by commanding officer of 38 Assam Rifle. Governor appreciated the high moral and motivation of the troops.
Governor also conducted meeting with the business community of Pochuri tribe.
Governor was accompanied by his wife and commissioner & secretary to governor, Mhabemo Yanthan.
Yitachu, MLA 20 Meluri A/C, who also attended the meeting, spoke about the importance of upliftment of the district. Earlier, deputy commissioner (DC) Phek Razouvolie Dozo delivered welcome address.
