SUMAN scheme launched in Kiphire

Surakshit Matritva Aashwasan (SUMAN) scheme was launched on October 25 by Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Kiphire, Dr. R Chubala Aier during a launching programme held at the Conference Hall, District Hospital, Kiphire.
A press release by CMO Kiphire office informed that speaking at the launching programme, Dr. R Chubala Aier said SUMAN scheme was a significant initiative that aims at providing dignified and quality healthcare services to every woman and new-born visiting a facility. She said that the scheme was an initiative by the government of India to put an end to preventable maternal and new-born deaths in the country.
Underscoring the importance of creating awareness on the scheme, Dr. Aier said the medical department should coordinate with other line departments to ensure the success of the scheme.
In a keynote address, DPO (RCH/UIP), Dr. K Pewezo Khalo highlighted the aim, objectives and packages of the SUMAN scheme including its.
DPO said the scheme aims to create a responsive health care system which strives to achieve zero maternal and infant deaths and high quality of maternity care delivered with dignity and respect. Dr. Khalo said the beneficiaries of the scheme include all pregnant women, all mothers up to six months post-delivery, and all sick infants.
It is to be noted that SUMAN designated centres in Kiphire district are District Hospital Kiphire and Community Health Centre (CHC) Pungro. The scheme was also launched at CHC Pungro on October 21.
