Sumis celebrate Ahuna-cum-mini hornbill festival

Ahuna, the post harvest festival of the Sumis, cum-mini-hornbill festival was celebrated with pomp and traditional fervor on Monday.
Deputy chief minister, Y Patton graced the celebration at Zunheboto district as special guest.
According to DIPR report, Patton while extending Ahuna greetings, reminded the Sumi community of the brotherhood they shared in the past and the similarities they maintained till today. He said that Nagas were looking forward to the Sumis and its leaders, who head major political bodies, to lead the Nagas as a whole to the brightest days ahead.
On the development front, Patton reiterated that the citizens should encourage developments and appealed to the landowners to work out the easiest solutions on land issues so that more development could take place.
The deputy chief minister was accompanied by minister of Soil and Water Conservation, V. Kashiho Sangtam, advisor, Food & Civil Supplies, LMCP and Taxes Pukhyi Sumi, advisor, Prisons and Printing & Stationary, H. Haiying and advisor School Education and SCERT, K Tokugha Sukhalu.
Advisor, Pukhayi Sümi, while speaking at the celebration, said that people should never forget their roots as it was their tradition and culture.
Cultural items, songs, and various other traditional activities, such as Aphilo Kuwo by Khukiye Lukhayi village, Ghile Qhesho by Philimi village, Kakapu by SBCZ, Ahuna Kibe by Satami village and a special presentation by Immanuel Higher Secondary School, Zunheboto enthralled the gathering.
Earlier the programme began with an invocation by Executive Secretary SBAK Nito mount, Rev. Hukugha Zhimomi. President Sumi Hoho, I Nikheto Jimomi presented the welcome address and vote of thanks by vice president Sumi Hoho, Zhevihe Sumi.
HASPO: Members from Highway Area Sumi Public Organisation (HASPO), comprising of 21 villages dressed in their traditional attires took part in the celebration held at Agri Expo, 4th Mile, Chümoukedima.
The festival as graced by Sumi Kukami Hoho president Kashito Yepthomi as Ahuna papuh (Ahuna father) and minister of PHED, Jacob Zhimomi as special guest.
Extending Ahuna greetings, Jacob stressed on the importance of value based education, stating that it was the primary step towards a prosperous life and giving back to society.
He said that love, unity and peace should not only prevail within the community alone but encouraged the gathering to share and learnt to live the same with the other communities.
Jacob also encouraged the gathering to set an exemplary life by building a cordial relationship with one another.
On the occasion, the minister also spoke on the merits and demerits and its effects on the advancement of the technology. He encouraged the gathering to understand the prospects of the advancement in technology and use the platform to build a better society instead of discriminating one another. “We are living in a mixed community, so we need to influence each other with our behavior” the minister added.
Highlights of the celebration included cultural presentations such as Aphilokuwo (Sumi warrior dance) by Kiptimi Chekiye Ghami, Totimi Kighile- Bamunpukhur and Akukuxu.
Theme speaker of the festival was Sumi Tsaiko Mipi, vice chairman, retired director, health and family welfare, Dr. H Hotokhu Chishi.
At the programme invocation was offered by Thilixu Ghami Baptist Church senior pastor reverend Dr.Huvukhu Achumi, welcome address was delivered by HASPO president Vikuto Awomi, greetings was delivered by Western Sumi Hoho president Kashito Yeptho and special song was presented by Living Voice band and blessing prayer by WSBAK executive secretary Rev. Dr. Phughoto Sema.
Vote of thanks was delivered by HASPO general secretary Er. Hekavi G Sumi and benediction by NCRC Thilixu pastor Rev. Phuhoto Chishi.
Akuluto- V.K. Area Kohima: Akuluto – V.K Area Union Kohima celebrated Ahuna festival hosted by advisor for CAWD & NSDMA Kazheto Kinimi at his official residence, Kohima.
Speaking as the Ahuna Papu ( Ahuna father), the advisor said that there would not be any progress in the society without unity and therefore urged the area people to love, respect, and keep the bond stronger to move forward for a better future.
In the programme, former president of Akuluto – V K Area Union Kohima, V. Khekiye Kiba spoke on the significance of the festival.
Principal Director, of Health & Family Welfare, Dr. Vikato Kinimi highlighted on the present scenario and encouraged the youths to be more sincere and dedicated in their studies to achieve their goal. The day-long programme included folksong, special songs, and an Ahuna feast.
