G-Sports FC and New Market FC emerged as the two favourites from the day-3 quarter finals league matches in the ongoing Kohima Super Cup, here at IG Stadium on Tuesday.
In the first match, G-Sports crushed Hurricane Boys Phesama with a score of 6-2 with one of its players scoring a hattrick. The first goal came from the boots of G-Sports team captain, Asito Krose who scored in the 3rd minute of the game which was equalised by Abri Kar of Hurricane Boys in the 38th minute.
The first half ended with one score each, however, in the second half, Rüvise Zashümo scored the last goal for the Boys in the 56th minute.
This was followed by a barrage of goals from Imlongchaba in the 63rd, 71st and 74th minutes while his teammates Menguzelie Rutsa and Yami scored a goal each in the 68th and 90th minutes respectively.
In second encounter of the day, New Market FC decimated Sechü FC Academy 9-0 giving no space for the latter to even breathe.
New Market midfielder Nyithong Magh was the first to net the ball in the 22nd minute and doubled it in the 54th minute.
Fellow teammate Noune Medoze scored four goals in the 34th, 45th, 56th and 89th minutes and earned himself a place in the hattrick scorers’ list. Later the scored was enhanced by contributions from Kevisanyü Peseyie, Neithovilie Chalieu and Letkhokai Kuki in the 64th, 89th and 90th minutes and helped retain the team’s impressive run of no losses in this edition of the cup. Despite their consistent effort, Sechü FCA failed to save themselves from complete humiliation as their dream for the cup grew dimmer with each loss.
With Tuesday’s win G-Sports and New Market now have 6 points each and are the top two teams in Group-A and will take on each other in the next league match for the group on Thursday, while the two losing teams with no points so far will also face off.
Meanwhile, the 3rd Xavier Rutsa Memorial Trophy will be played between the organiser of Kohima Super Cup, Kohima Town Club and Kohima Press Club (KPC) on May 29, (Sunday) at IG Stadium Kohima at after the second semi-final round. KPC president, Alice Yhoshü informed that the event would be a friendly football match between the two clubs and was organized as a tribute to late Xavier Rutsa, who was one of the founding members of both the clubs.
