Kohima Super Cup semis: G-Sports Vs Barak; A-Yhome Vs New Market

Correspondent

G-Sports, New Market, A-Yhome and Barak entered the semi-finals of the ongoing Kohima Super Cup after the last matches for the quarter final league matches concluded on Friday, here at IG Stadium.
In the first match of the day (Pool-B), Barak FC and Aphuyemi FC had a fierce contest for one of the two slots in the semifinals as all the four teams in the Pool had one win and a loss each.
However, with A-Yhome emerging as the leader of Pool-B by defeating Magdaline Coaching FC 3-2, Barak FC qualified as runner-up as they had a better goal difference of +3. Despite their best efforts none of Barak and Aphuyemi’s numerous attempts could materialise and they had to settle for an uneasy and goalless draw.
The tension and fight for survival was strongly felt as the main referee, Michael Dul, had to issue five cautionary cards to players from both the teams. However, the tensed match ended amicably and the sportsmanship of both the teams was later displayed when they shook hands with each other.
In the last quarter final match, A-Yhome FC beat Magdaline Coaching FC 3-2 and emerged the Pool-B leader by winning two of the three encounters.
Tianungsung of Magdaline scored the first goal in the 15th minute of the game sending the opposing team into a frenzy all through the first half as that remained the only goal for the half.
In the fourth minute after the suspenseful break, Punuru of A-Yhome, netted the first goal for the team bringing back a ray of hope for the team.
Punuru quickly doubled his score within 10 minutes of his first goal and continued with his charm with another goal in the 72nd minute and earned himself a hattrick.
Magdaline’s relentless efforts paid off when Nosal Pucho doubled the team’s score in the 79th minute, which, however, remained as the last and final score of the team as they unwillingly conceded defeat and bowed out of the tournament.
Earlier on Thursday after the two leaders of Pool-A, G-Sports and New Market’s match ended in 1-1draw, a lot was drawn where G-Sports emerged as the winner of the group and New Market as the runner-up as they both had an identical score of same goal difference of +11 and 7 points each.
Winner of Pool-A, G-Sports will now face off with the runner-up of Pool-B, Barak FC, in the first semi final match on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. while winner of Pool-B, A-Yhome FC, would play against the runner-up of Pool-A, New Market FC on May 29, Sunday, at 1:30 p.m.
