SVEEP campaign held at 59th A/C Seyochung- Sitimi under Kiphire

Systematic Voters Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) campaign was held at Seyochung- Sitimi 59th A/C under Kiphire district on February 23 at EAC office, Sitimi.
According to DIPR report, District SVEEP Icon, Azila V Sangtam, defined election as a process of choosing or electing a leader who can be their voice and represent on their behalf. She also discussed the objective of the SVEEP campaign which was to ensure that people understand their rights as voters and exercise the right to vote with full responsibility and knowledge.
To educate the voters about the importance of vote in a democratic country, she also reminded them that to exercise this right, they first need to enrol in the electoral once they reached 18 years. “To get enrolled, in a year, there are four windows January 1, April 1, July 1 and August 1, so once a citizen attains the age of 18 years, everyone is free to enrol the names, she informed.
Sangtam also said that everyone is free to exercise his/her vote and if anyone stops them or tries to harm them, then as per the Election Model Code of Conduct, they will be punished. She further encouraged the general public to abstain from corruption and violence.
The programme was led by head DB Sitimi, T. Tsalise and welcome address by EAC Sitimi and AEO Kiphire, Sizin Renttah.
