Talar, Karki clinch 4th Hornbill Badminton championship


Laa Talar and Pinky Karki from Arunachal Pradesh emerged as champions of Men’s and Women’s singles respectively of the 4th Hornbill Badminton championship Northeast and Nagaland Open, which concluded at Indoor Stadium here on Wednesday.
A total of 120 participants from various states of North East region took part in the competition held on the theme “forging camaraderie”.
In the men’s category, Laa Talar defeated former champion Unil Kumar (Manipur) to lift the title. Talar received Rs. 25,000 and runner-up with Rs. 12,000. Pinky Karki (Arunachal Pradesh) secured the women’s single title by defeating Mepulila in the final match.
Karki received a cash prize of Rs 12,000 and runner-up Mepulila got Rs 8000.
In the men’s doubles, Nagaland’s shutters Riku Khape and Zhakuo Seyie defeated Unil Kumar and Khairam Punshiba from Manipur to clinch the title.
While in the mixed doubles, individual champion’s duo Pinky Karki and Laa Talar outclassed Tovali & Medemnochet in the final match taking two titles in their kitty.
In the Junior category, Renchamo took the title defeating Pursungit in the final match.
In the amateur category, Ikato & Anahito emerged as champions while Tongpang & Tekaremba finished runner-up.
For 35+ category, veteran Tongpang and Lima finished as winner and Nochet & Beizo came as runner-up.
