Tapi by-poll: NDPP, Cong candidates file nomination

Ruling NDPP candidate Wangpang Konyak and the Congress (INC) candidate Wanglem Konyak on Friday filed their nomination papers for the November 7 by-election to 43 Tapi assembly constituency.


October 20, 2023 was the last day for filing of nominations. The by-election was necessitated following the passing of sitting member and advisor for social welfare department Noke Wangnao. According to a DIPR, the nomination papers were filed at DC’s office Mon, under the supervision of SDO(C) Rongsenmenla, the returning officer of the 43-Tapi A/C for the upcoming by-election.


The by-election would be a straight fight between the NDPP and Congress. Scrutiny of the documents would be conducted on October 21, 2023 while the last day for withdrawal of candidature is October 23, 2023. The result of the by-election would be declared on December 3.

Paid holiday: State government through a circular has declared November 7, 2023—the day of poll for the by-election to 43-Tapi (ST) assembly constituency—as paid holiday for all the employees of government, banks, financial institutions, private business establishments, industrial undertakings or any other establishment including any person employed in any trade in 43-Tapi assembly constituency to enable them to participate and exercise their franchise.


The circular stated that paid holiday would also apply to all the categories of employees, who are registered as electors in the said Constituency but employed in an industrial undertaking or an establishment located outside the said Constituency.


However, it would not apply to any elector whose absence may cause danger or substantial loss in respect of the employment in which he or she is engaged.
