TN police reach out to NE people

Recent fake videos on social media that fuelled rumours of attacks on north Indians in Tamil Nadu have not spared Northeast region also.
In a press release, Naga Christian Fellowship (NCF) Chennai Pastor Wapangtoshi, who is also the president of North East India Welfare Association (NEIWA) Chennai, stated that “some unwarranted messages” in the context of Northeast people have surfaced on various social media platforms in Nagaland creating fear and confusion among the people resulting in large number of phone calls and queries from Nagaland.
Therefore, in order to take stock of the situation, NCF pastor said he met assistant commissioner of police (ACP) at Greater Chennai Police Commissionerate on March 16, 2023 and raised concerns of the current situation.
He said that the matter of unauthorised message circulated on social media platforms in Nagaland was also discussed.
According to NCF pastor, the ACP reiterated that the situation in Tamil Nadu was peaceful and under control.
ACP also appealed to all the Northeast people not to worry about the situation in Chennai and other parts of Tamil Nadu.
ACP informed that the Tamil Nadu police have already arrested some perpetrators and booked several people for posting fake videos and “provocative” tweets about unsubstantiated allegations of attacks on migrant workers from the North India.
