Tongpang apprise centre on rejuvenation of water bodies

Advisor of Water Resources, Tongpang Ozukum on Wednesday informed media persons that he had apprised the union minister of Jal Shakti, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat for rejuvenation of water bodies in the state.
Addressing media persons on the sideline of his thanksgiving programme, Tongpang said that he raised the issue at the High Powered Committee meeting on the Brahmaputra port as representative of state chief minister held in Guwahati on May 1.
The meeting was chaired by Union Minister Gajendra Singh and taking the opportunity, Tongpang shared on the present status of water bodies in the state. He informed the meeting that there were only 1432 water bodies in Nagaland which were slowly drying up.
In this connection, Tongpang had requested the concerned ministry to approve the projects from the state and informed that focus needed to be given on the flood management and erosion of the rivers.
On the progress of Jal Jeevan Mission, under PHED, the advisor said that from the reports cited, Nagaland was one of the few states where the performances was found to be satisfactory.
Meanwhile, Tongpang Ozukum, held thanksgiving programme at his residence, Officer’s Hill, Kohima on May 3.
Addressing the gathering, Tongpang informed that under 24 Angetyongpang A/C, a development board would be constituted to work for the development of the area along with members from all the villages and wards in the area.
To help and encourage the civil services aspirant from the area, he announced to open a hostel in Kohima and provide coaching to the students. Further, he also informed that an ambulance service has been started for the people of 24 Angetyongpang A/C where people could avail the service at nominal rate.
