Advisor for tribal affairs and election, H Tovihoto Ayemi, flagged off the 9th Horsepower Autocross Challenge (HAC) at Agri Expo Site, Diphupar on Friday. The three-day event is being organized by Nagaland Adventure Club (NAC) in partnership with Nexa Jimny.
Speaking at the flagging off programme, Ayemi lauded NAC for its tireless dedication to fostering motorsports in the state. He called upon participants hailing from various corners of the Northeast to embrace discipline and dedication in their quest for triumph. Advisor reminded that sports had an innate ability to forge bonds of camaraderie and unity among people.
After officially commencing the race, Ayemi also showcased his prowess on the racetrack, setting an impressive time of 2 minutes 13 second 11 milliseconds. Meanwhile, speaking to media persons, NAC president, Burakum Ao, stated that the 9th HAC features six distinct categories, SUV, Open Category, Rookie, Ladies, Autorickshaw, and Stock Category. A total of 85 participants from across the Northeast including five accomplished female contenders are taking part in the event.
Stressing on the significance of autorickshaw category, NAC advisor Peter Rutsa said autorickshaw drivers, who often rely on daily wages, seldom have the chance to partake in such festivities. He therefore said that the event aims to provide valuable opportunity for them to revel in exhilarating atmosphere and get a taste of the track.
He said that non-availability of proper venue was the biggest obstacle in organizing such events. He, however, said that NAC was trying its best to take it to the next level.
