A two-day training and monitoring on low chilling apple was conducted by School of Agricultural Sciences and Rural Development: Nagaland University (SASRD:NU) Medziphema campus on May 11-12 at Longkhum Village and Yimchalu Village under Mokokchung district.
A press release by SASRD:NU informed that the training was held under North Eastern Council (NEC) funded projected in North Eastern Region (NER) of India.
During the training, resource persons from National Innovation Foundation – senior innovation officer, Hardev Choudhry and research associate, Dr. Rajiv Milli, delivered lectures and demonstration on training and pruning techniques in apple.
The beneficiaries were given hands on training on field and were also taught on how to organically control various pests and diseases prevalent in apple plantation with locally available resources and herbs.
An interactive session between the participants and the experts was also held. The training was followed by monitoring of beneficiaries’ farms at various locations headed by project in-charge, professor Akali Sema and co-project in-charge Dr. Graceli Yepthomi from department of horticulture, SASRD:NU, Medziphema campus.
