Training on mushroom cultivation at Pangti

Department of Botany and Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Nagaland University, organised a training and demonstration programme on mushroom cultivation at Pangti village under Sungro Block, Wokha district, on November 21.
Principal Scientist and Head, KVK Zunheboto, Dr. Rakesh Kumar Chaurasia welcomed the participants and encouraged the farmers to adopt mushroom cultivation for sustainable income generation. The main objective of the programme was to utilise the paddy straw which has been left unutilized after the harvest for round-the-year.
Taking this into account, a hand-on training and demonstrations on mushroom cultivation were imparted to the farmers by Dr. Asosii Paul, assistant professor, Department of Botany, and team including Moaakum and Hekato Achumi. Spawns were distributed to farmers so that they could start cultivating mushrooms. Altogether, 22 participants attended the programme. The programme was funded by the Ministry of Environment, Forestry, and Climate Change, Govt. of India, New Delhi (G. B. Pant National Institute of Himalayan Environment and Sustainable Development under the National Mission on Himalayan Studies).
