Trainings and demonstrations conducted for farmers

Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA) blocks and Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK)from across the state conducted various trainings and demonstrations to enhance the technical knowledge of the farmers and agriculture productivity.
KVK Kiphire: A Custom Hiring Centre was inaugurated on November 12 at Ngoromi Village under the initiative of KVK Kiphire and Nagaland State Rural Livelihood Mission (NSRLM) Longmatra block, Kiphire.
In an introductory remark on the importance of CHC, SMS KVK Kiphire Temjenna Jamir briefed the gathering on the role CHC plays for farm mechanization and how it could empower farmers to tide over the shortage of labour and improve efficiency of agricultural operations.
Jamir said CHC would empower community institutions for better rural finance, improve agriculture productivity and facilitate value chain development so that the produce could go to better markets and hence double the farmers’ income.
District Horticulture Office Kiphire HEA, Seroba Sangtam also highlighted the various schemes and projects the farmers could available in order to strengthen their farming system. He mainly emphasised on per drop more crop PMKSY scheme, the various benefits and how the farmers could avail it from the department. Altogether 54 farmers attended the launching programme.
Niuland block: ATMA Dimapur Niuland block conducted awareness and training programme for Farmers Interest Group (FIG) named “Alukichi Kivi Mugho” of S. Hetoyi village on November 9. At the programme, resource person ACTO (Agronomy), KVK-ICAR, Jharnapani, Dr.Roben Singh spoke on the methods of nutrient management under natural farming and cited that natural farming was a chemical free and livestock-based farming which uses inputs prepared from easily available farm resources. He conducted step-by-step procedure along with the farmers on the preparation of Ghana jeeva mrutham, drava jeeva mrutham and beeja mrutham.
In a separate programme, demonstration on “cultivation methods of winter vegetables” was conducted for women farmers of Viyito Village on November 9 with ATM Niuland block, Nzamo Kikon as the resource person.
Meluri block: To enhance the technical knowledge of the farmers on various winter crops and elevate the income of the farmers, ATMA Phek, Meluri block carried out various demonstrations and training on November 7 at Meluri Village with farmers from Meluri and Khumaisu Village. The farmers were trained on management and prevention of livestock diseases. The resource persons demonstrated the ideal nursery seedbed preparation and management of winter crops, use and management of seedlings in trays and transplanting methods. Two farmers group were mobilized from Meluri and Khumaisu Village namely Sashu and Kukraluo, the groups were trained on mushroom cultivation.
Chizami block: ATMA Chizami block conducted training, demonstration and mobilization of farmers on November 5 at Tsupfume village with resource person from horticulture research farm HO & BTT convener, Kelhouzakie Chielie and HEA, Chapi Chale. During the programme, hands on demonstration on nursery bed management, identification of insects and pests and its biological control, identification of kiwi variety, maturity and harvesting were carried out. Mobilization of two Self Help Groups (SHGs) namely Mitume SHG and Cavi SHG were conducted by BTM, Zevosenuo Rutsa.
Pfutsero block: ATMA, Phek, Pfutsero Block conducted training and demonstration for farmers on November 5 at Zapami and Kami Village. Training on shiitake mushroom cultivation was conducted with MeweKhutso, a successful mushroom grower from Zapami Village, as the trainer. The resource person emphasised on the cultivation technology and explained on various processes required for the cultivation of shiitake mushroom. The block also conducted mobilization of farmer group where one group Kebumi FSG from Kami Village was mobilised. Meanwhile, demonstration on the topics – nursery bed preparation and management of winter vegetables was conducted with Pfutsero block BTM, Khruvolu Swuro as the resource person.
Chetheba block: ATMA Phek Chetheba block on November 5 distributed winter vegetable seeds and conducted various training and demonstration at Khulazu Basa. ATM Victoria Visavinuo Zaphu have a demonstration on the importance of nursery bed preparation and management of cole crops while BTM Rokuotuono detailed the cultivation practices. ATM, Dzuthozo Chizo briefed the farmers about the cultivation practices of root crops with the ridge and furrow method. Women Folk Agriculturist who has common interest in vegetable cultivation were mobilized for farming groups.
Sekruzu block: ATMA Phek under Sekruzu block conducted training for farmers November 1 at Yoruba village. During the activities, block technology manager Sekruzu conducted field demonstrations on planting on winter vegetables. Training on the cultivation of cole crops was also conducted for the farmers.
