Trainings, demonstrations conducted for youth, farmers

With an aim to generate income for rural youths and farmers, different departments have been conducting various trainings and demonstrations to equip the youths and farmers for self-sustenance.
Agri deptt. Noklak: A training on integrated pest management was organised by the department of agriculture, Noklak on November 2 at Lang, New Pangsha Village with AFAs Pongyo and Puto and AO, Cholen as the resource persons.
During the training, the farmers were briefed on the importance of rodent pest management, effective control measures to prevent outbreak of rodents and also identification of natural predators that rely on rodent’s pest as a food source. Altogether 30 farmers attended the training.
Tsaru block: Training and demonstrations was conducted by the Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA) Tsaru block, Tuensang on November 1 at Tonglongsor Village. Training on package of practices for winter vegetables was conducted with ATM Tsaru block, Tiyongnaro Imsong as the trainer while demonstration on the topic, “guide to carrot cultivation and nursery bed preparation and management of cole crops” was conducted with BTM, Dr. T. Arenmongla as the resource person. The block also conducted mobilization of farmer’s groups where one New Farmer’s Interest Group (FIG) under the nomenclature “Bekhu Fig” from Kiding village was mobilized. Altogether 20 farmers from Kiding village, Alisopur village and Tonglongsor village along with BFAC members, farmers friend and ATMA functionaries attended the programme.
KVK Longleng: A four-day on-campus training programme on “sustainable pig farming for income generation” for rural youth conducted by Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Longleng culminated on November 1 at KVK Longleng office. KVK Longleng stated that the training aimed to impart skill for pig farming amongst the rural youth to sustain their livelihood. During the training, the topics on scientific housing, breed selection, feeding and disease management were covered by SMS, KVK Longleng, Dr. Lily Ngullie. Altogether 15 rural youth attended the training programme.
Wakching block: ATMA Mon Wakching block conducted training and demonstration programme on November 2 at Shiyong Village. Demonstration was done on nursery bed preparation of king chilli by resource person Yanyak Konyak, a progressive farmer while training on preservation and value addition of king chilli was given by BTM, Roseline Pusa. The daylong programme was attended by 18 farmers from the village.
Angjangyang block: A training programme on “oyster mushroom cultivation” was conducted by ATMA Angjangyang block on November 3 at Jakphang village. During the training, ATM Longerkaba Longchar emphasised on the cultivation technology and explained the various processes which are required for the cultivation of oyster mushroom. Altogether 22 participants attended the training.
Chen block: ATMA Chen block conducted training on November 3 at Chenmoho, wherein BTM, Nusakho Nyekha imparted training on “integrated pest management of vegetable crops” and the “benefits of neem oil in vegetative farms”. A demonstration on cultivation of cabbage and garden pea was presented by ATM, Taiching Yana, who emphasised on seeds spacing, the benefits of soil mulching and moisture retention in the fields. The participants were also informed to form a commodity interest group at the village level.
Phomching block: ATMA Mon Phomching block conducted demonstration on the topic, “cultivation practices of garden pea” on November 3 at Tangnyu Village, wherein resource person, BTM Nunghothung Odyuo gave a demonstration on how to sow the seeds, spacing and transplantation from nursery bed to field. Altogether 11 participants attended the demonstration.
Mon block: One day training on “package and practices of onion” was conducted by ATMA Mon block on November 2 at Totok Chingha village. At the training, resource persons BTM Mhachamo and ATM Shampa Konyak gave a demonstration on preparation of raised nursery bed and also shared about growing onion seeds from nursery beds and its proper management, optimum time and spacing for transplanting and also growing of green/spring onions from the bulb. A total of 20 participants attended the programme.
