TVC objects to KVC assisting survey of trekking path

Thanamir Village Council (TVC) has strongly objected to Khongjiri Village Council (KVC) assisting survey of Mount Saramati trekking path.
In a representation to Kiphire additional deputy commissioner (ADC), TVC chairman Tsechimong declared that the survey would not be allowed without prior consultation with Thanamir village.
He claimed that Thanamir had been protecting ancestral land since 1940s and that the village would never allow any new routes to survey Mount Saramati under its jurisdiction, adding that those who had gone to Mount Saramati knew about Thanamir and all the developmental activities were also carried out by the village.
The TVC chairman acknowledged that Mount Saramati, the Crown of Nagaland, was for Nagas, but mentioned that geographically it fell under Thanamir ancestral land covering two international boundary pillars (137 and 138).
He said the protection of animals in the pristine forests and conservation of flora within 65 square km, excluding jhum land, were one of the primary concerns of the people.
Therefore, he urged the ADC to look into the matter with all sincerity at the earliest on the matter and declared that in case of any untoward situation arising in the future, Thanamir Village Council should not be held responsible.
