UAE President Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed dies

The United Arab Emirates’ President and ruler of Abu Dhabi Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan passed away on Friday, local media reports quoting the Ministry of Presidential Affairs said. He was 73.
Sheikh Khalifa served as the President of the UAE and ruler of Abu Dhabi since November 3, 2004. The Ministry of Presidential Affairs has announced 40 days of mourning, a report said. Born in 1948, Sheikh Khalifa was the second President of the UAE and the 16th Ruler of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. He was the eldest son of Sheikh Zayed.
India announces one-day state mourning: India announced one day of state mourning on Saturday.
According to a communication issued by the Home Ministry to all states on Friday, as a mark of respect to the departed dignitary, the Government has decided to observe one-day state mourning on May 14 throughout the country, during which the national flag will be flown at half-mast and no official entertainment.
Expressing grief, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that Sheikh Khalifa was a great statesman and visionary leader under whom relations between the two countries prospered.
