As Nagaland is to go to polls on February 27 and following the decision of Konyak Union on January 18, to abide by the August 26, 2022 resolution of Eastern Nagaland People’s Organisation (ENPO) to not participate in the assembly polls and bar anyone from filing nomination and to hold the village of the person filing nomination responsible; two other apex tribe organisations of eastern Nagaland have also reaffirmed to impose the ENPO resolution.
The two apex tribe bodies– United SangtamLikhüm Pümji (USLP) and Chang Khulei Setshang- have also reaffirmed to stick by the August 26, 2022 resolution by ENPO to not participate in election “until government of India grant the demand ENPO for a separate statehood befittingly.”
In separate statements, USLP and CKS– the apex tribal bodies of the Sangtam and Chang communities, warned of stern action against any individual from the community, filing nomination(s) for the forthcoming Assembly elections.
These were among several resolutions adopted by both the organizations during their emergency meetings held on January 21 at their respective headquarters.
USLP: In a joint statement issued by USLP vice president Kipitong Sangtam; president Akehta Sangtamlarü Thsingmüjang (AST) S. Apila and executive chairman United Sangtam Students’ Conference (USSC) Daniel Sechopi said that during the emergency meeting held with all frontal organizations under USLP, all political parties, all Hd.GBs and VCCs at Hopongkyu Memorial Hall Kiphire on January 21, made it clear that they should not be held responsible in the event of any circumstances if any individual fail to adhere with the directives.
It was also resolved that any individual, under USLP, found violating the resolution “shall be ex-communicated from Sangtam community effectively”. It has also endorsed and empowered USSC, AST & village councils to fully implement the resolution.
CKS: Chang Khulei Setshang, Changsao Thangjam Setshang, Chang Wedoshi Setshang during its emergency meeting held at the CKS hall besides resolving to initiate stern action against those individuals jeopardizing the stand of CKS, also affirmed not to allow any political campaigns within its jurisdiction.
It further endorsed the CWS to fully implement and act on the resolution.
