We are confident of securing double-digit in Meghalaya: BJP

Correspondent

Ahead of the single-phase of Meghalaya polls, top BJP leaders on Friday exuded confidence that the party will make impressive gains and lead the first ever BJP government in Meghalaya.
“We are confident to get a double-digit in Meghalaya. We are also confident that BJP will also lead the first ever BJP government. The people have endorsed the BJP to lead the government for a corruption-free government,” Mawrie said.
“In 2018 assembly elections, the BJP won just two out of 60 seats and garnered 9.5 per cent vote share, but this time around, we expect to get a vote share of 20-25 per cent share of the total vote after we have further strengthening our party bases in all the 60 assembly constituencies,” the BJP leader confidently said.
The BJP has fielded its candidates in all the 60 assembly constituencies and its upbeat with former legislators of the ruling NPP and the opposition TMC contesting the February 27 assembly polls on a BJP ticket.
The BJP which is supporting the incumbent NPP-led government is fighting the elections on its own.
Referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s whirlwind campaign in the State capital Shillong and Tura, the district headquarters in West Garo Hills and second largest town in the State after Shillong on Friday, Mawrie said, “You have seen the people’s support (huge crowd) for Modi and the BJP in both the towns. There is massive support for the BJP. People wanted a change after seeing the dismal performance of the NPP-led government, which is plagued with corruption.”
Unlike in the previous elections, Mawrie said that there is a change of heart, change of mind in the people and people of the state have also realised that it is only the BJP which can ensure development and create employment opportunities.
Brushing asides allegations that BJP is anti-Christian and anti-minority, the BJP president blamed the Congress for spreading such propaganda to mislead the people as they have no other agenda to defeat the Modi government on its mantra ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas’.
“BJP’s mission is to work for the country and its development. BJP is an organisation of all sections, all regions, all castes and all religions. The BJP belongs to all Indians,” Mawrie said.
