Webinar on export of cane and bamboo

A webinar on “Northeast Region (NER) for Export Potential of Cane and Bamboo Furniture and Decorative Crafts, Focus State: Nagaland” under Capacity Building Programme Initiative was organised by the NER Chapter of PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PHDCCI) in association with department of Commerce, Ministry of Commerce & Industry, government of India on October 21.
In a press release, NER of PHDCCI stated that the objective of the webinar was to explore the potential of export of cane and bamboo products and decorative crafts in the state of Nagaland.
During the webinar, project officer, Nagaland Bamboo Development Agency (NBDA), Dr. Tolto Metha stated that bamboo can no longer be termed as a poor man’s timber but of late its importance has risen dramatically. He described the different species of bamboo being used for different purposes and their export potential.
Former director, Indian Institute of Entrepreneurship, Kamruddin Ahmed stated the role of marketing in increasing the export potential of cane and bamboo products from the state of Nagaland. He also pointed out the need to increase bamboo production in the state.
Regional advisory NER and Bhutan, Dr. Neelanjan Konwar stated about the immense potential in the Nagaland bamboo industry and the export of cane and bamboo products. He also pointed out the need to provide handholding support to the bamboo artisans of the state.
Former managing director, NERAMAC, Er. Manoj Kumar Das spoke on his role in establishing the Cane and Bamboo Technology Centre (CBTC), and also gave an overview on different schemes of the Central Government regarding the bamboo industry.
The webinar began with a welcome addressed by convenor (Nagaland), PHDCCI, Dr. Vekho Swuro and concluded with vote of thanks by deputy resident director, NER, PHDCCI, Bibhuti Dutta.
