Senior BJP leader, Alexander LalooHek on Monday promised a CBI probe into all the alleged scams occurred during the National People’s Party (NPP) regime and the guilty punished if his party comes to power in the state.
“I am the son of the soil and all those who have been involved in corruption would be probed by the CBI within six months after the BJP comes to power,” Hek, a former minister and BJP candidate from the Pynthormukhrah assembly seat, said after filing his nomination papers. Hek, who was stripped of his cabinet berth by the MDA government has been upset and has been leveling corruption charges against the government indicating that the central leadership of the party knows about the corruption charges about the outgoing Meghalaya Democratic Alliance government. “If the BJP comes to power there would be a CBI probe within the six months. Nobody would be spared,” Hek reiterated.
The BJP is a minor partner in the outgoing MDA government with one of the legislators being cabinet ministers. Apart from Hek, SanborShullai is the other BJP legislator who was inducted in the cabinet after Hek was ousted. Hek moreover said that he is the Chief Minister candidate if the BJP comes to power in the state.
“There will be a double engine government if the BJP is elected to power in Meghalaya as the Centre is already led by the BJP and in that scenario. I am the chief minister. The party central leadership has appointed me to important posts within the party and so naturally he is the fit for the top post,” Hek said. However, when Shullai came to file his nominations countered Hek’s aspirations and said that nothing has been decided and it’s up to the central leadership to decide on the CM candidate.
“The party high command would take a decision on this (CM candidate,)” Shullai said.
