Workshop on plastic waste management at Nuiland

One day workshop on “plastic waste management and segregation of waste at the source” was organised by Public Health Engineering Department PHED (Rural) Division Dimapur in collaboration with the Niuland Town Council under the theme, “Freedom from Garbage” on December 12 at the Conference Hall of Deputy Commissioner (DC) Nuiland office.
According to DIPR report, delivering a keynote address, ADC and administration Nuiland Town Council (NTC), T. Lemlila Sangtam said the workshop was a consortium of departments such as DA, Municipal, PHED, and Nagaland Pollution Control Board collaborating for a common cause – “To make their town and district clean and green”.
Nagaland Pollution Control Board (NPCB), member secretary, Hukato Chishi urged the public to cooperate with the district administration and carry forward the district to a better place.
Chishi also said that NGT has imposed Rs. 200 crores on the state government due to the failure of sewage and solid waste management in the state.
He added that if solid, sewage and plastic were not properly managed then the environment would be in a worse situation in next 10-20 years.
Also speaking at the event, district coordinator, DWSM, PHED Dimapur, Imojungla Longkumer stated that Swachh Bharat Mission 2 aims for villages to progress towards ODF-Plus status while Scientist ‘B’ Nagaland Pollution Control Board, Yanathung Kithan highlighted the solid waste management rules 2016 and duties and responsibilities of the DC, every waste generator, Urban Local bodies, and village panchayat.
Earlier SDO PHE- Niuland, Er. Toshika delivered the welcome note; invocation by Youth Pastor Niuland Town Baptist Church, Vivi Zhimomi; environment engineer Nagaland Pollution Control Board Akali Swu also spoke on the programme and words on the way forward by EE, PHED Rural Division, Dimapur, Er. Nirie-e Nisa.
