Kohima celebrated World Art Day on theme “Colours of Nagaland”, at Old NST Complex.
The programme was an initiative of Task Force for Music and Arts (TaFMA) in collaboration with visual artists of Nagaland to promote the development, fusion and expansion of art with the state.
Speaking on the occasion, director Art & Culture department, Adela Moa said artists had a free way of expressing themselves without any laid down regulations nor were they bound by any rules in comparison with the government and private firms.
While stating that art was a creative form of expression to the world through the aid of brushes and colours without uttering a word, Moa acknowledged TaFMA for providing a platform to the artists.
She urged upon the participants to take advantage of such initiatives and at the same time expand their creativity.
Art and Drama Educator, Cynthia Kolakhe informed that the two-day art festival was an opportunity to focus on the arts education in schools and also in cultural perspective to pave the way for equitable education.
One special feature this year was including young kids to participate, as the inspiration has to start from the grass-root levels, Cynthia mentioned.
TaFMA project director, Dr. Hovithal Sothu delivered the welcome note and informed that the prizes were sponsored by Tejo weaves.
Over 10 visual artists have brought their works and 30 artists for the painting competition.
The painting would be on display for the public and would be up for sale on April 13. It was scheduled to 12-13 April as the day coincided with good Friday.
