Western Sumi Youth Front (WSYF) has appealed to the Kuki and Meitei communities of Manipur to shun violence and refrain from indulging in any form of provocative acts, to restore peace and normalcy in the State.
As any form of problem and issue could be resolved through peaceful dialogue, WSYF in a statement appealed to both the communities to sit together and hammer out a solution for the benefit of both the communities in particular and Manipur in general.
WSYF further urged the Central and State governments to sincerely place mechanisms to sort out the differences between the two communities so that the people of Manipur could live in peace and tranquillity.
It also urged the Kukis and Meiteis living in Sumi areas of Dimapur, Niuland and Chümoukedima to remain calm and refrain from intra-community skirmishes. It warned that any such act by individual/group or community would not be tolerated and dealt scrupulously, which could lead to expulsion from the areas.
Vandalism condemned
WSYF also strongly condemned the vandalisation of Naga Students’ Federation’s office at Kohima and said that such uncivilised act had no place in the society. It appealed to the government to take necessary action against the culprits, while urging authorities to settle the issue pertaining to NSF office at Naga Club building at the earliest.
