Nagaland: Youth imparted training on ‘piggery’

A six-day Skill Training for Rural Youth (STRY) on the topic, “piggery rearing and management” was conducted by Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA) Peren district in association with State Agricultural Management and Extension Training Institute (SAMETI), Nagaland and National Institute of Agricultural Extension Management (MANAGE), Hyderabad on August 22-27 at Gaili village.
A press release by ATMA Peren stated that the training was organised with the objective to impart skill-based training to rural youths so as to create skilled manpower, promote employment in rural areas and to encourage the youths to take up such ventures for income generation.
During the training course, the participants were introduced to piggery farming- its economic importance and the need/demand for meat purpose in Nagaland.
At the training, resource person, veterinary assistant surgeon, department of veterinary and animal husbandry, Jalukie, Dr.Suiyipeube Mpom spoke on the advantages of pig rearing while resource person, ATMA piggery farm school teacher, Adibu took the participants to his farm and highlighted the management system.
Mon: A six-day Skill Training of Rural Youth (STRY) on “post-harvest and value addition of fruits and vegetables” was conducted by Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Mon in association with State Agricultural Management and Extension Training Institute (SAMETI) Nagaland and National Institute of Agricultural Extension Management (MANAGE), Hyderabad on August 22-27 at KVK campus Aboi, Mon.
A press release by KVK Mon stated that in a keynote address, senior scientist and head, KVK Mon, Dr. V Akashe Zhimomi emphasised on postharvest loses of fruits and vegetables.
Zhimomi stressed on avoiding losses by converting them into value added products and making the produces available during off season. He also encouraged participants to develop skills through the training and to take up income generating activities.
During the training, resource persons delivered lectures on scope and importance of post-harvest management causes of spoilage in fruits and vegetables, processing, packaging, different methods of preservation etc., while hands on practical sessions were also conducted where participants were trained in preparing various value-added products.
