ZCOs dismayed with ZB (AMN) statement

Zeliangrong Civil Organisations (ZCOs)– Zeliangrong Baudi (Manipur), Zeliangrong Youth Front and Zeliangrong Students’ Union– have expressed dismay over the joint press statement issued by Zeliangrong Baudi (AMN), Zeliangrong Baudi (Nagaland) and Zeliangrong Baudi (Assam) rejecting the claim of endorsing the “Agreed Position” signed between the government of India and WC, NNPGs on November 17, 2017.
ZCOs through its media and publicity cell stated that the “wild allegation” levelled upon the leaders of Zeliangrong Baudi and the frontal organisations leaders in connection with the consultative meeting with the seven NNPGs on June 7, 2022 in Dimapur was “totally wrong and baseless.”
ZCOs sought to “make it clear” that prior information was intimated to the ZB (AMN) president over telephone regarding the invitation extended to Naga tribal hohos including Zeliangrong organisations of Manipur by seven NNPGs for a consultative meeting, adding that there was no objection or reaction from ZB (AMN) president either.
ZCOs said it was also “considered and felt” that attending the consultative meeting convened by different political groups, which were engaging in political negotiation for peaceful political settlement was “not a crime.”
They further clarified that ZCOs leaders right after attending the consultative meeting “straight away” drove to Jalukie from Dimapur and had “a cordial and fruitful discussion” at the residence of ZB (Nagaland) president CR Zeliang regarding the points and issues raised by ZCOs leaders during the consultative meeting with seven NNPGs.
ZCOs claimed that CR Zeliang other leaders including ZB Nagaland vice-president Nicodim, ZB Nagaland advisor Joshua and ZB (AMN) president K Akhang participated in the discussion.
It pointed out that as per Zeliangrong Baudi Constitution Article 15 E (iii), (vi) every State Unit was empowered to tackle and deal pertaining to the affairs of any issues under its respective jurisdiction. Therefore, ZCOs said it was the “binding obligation” to discharge its constitutionally empowered responsibilities in the interest of the people.
ZCOs have, therefore, stated that the joint statement issued by ZB (AMN) president along with ZB Nagaland president and ZB Assam president “can be considered as an infringement and pure interference”, which was “clear violation of the constitutional provisions.”
Regarding ZB (AMN) vice-president, ZCOs stated that there was one vice-president ZB (AMN) each for every State Unit to oversee the overall affairs of their respective state unit in consultation and coordination with the executives of ZB state unit in addition to discharge his responsibilities as the ZB (AMN) vice-president.
Similarly, ZCOs said Zeliangrong Youth Front (Assam, Manipur and Nagaland) president and All Zeliangrong Student’s Union (Assam, Manipur & Nagaland) president have their “constitutional responsibilities and obligations” to represent in any meetings etc. in accordance to their organisation’s constitutional provisions apart from the present incumbent ZYF president and AZSU president being hailed from Manipur.
Zeliangrong being one of the Naga communities and stakeholders, ZCOs have appealed to the negotiating parties irrespective different political groups to bring political solution at the earliest “considering the ground realities of the people particular Zeliangrong people’s position and situation.”
Further, they appealed to members of all the political groups to “refrain from making harsh and intimidating words” that were against the peace process and against the wishes of the people.
ZCOs said they would not hesitate to sit across the table and share with the leaders of the political groups in free and fair manner the grievances and the problems being faced by the Zeliangrong people.
They said was the hope and aspiration of Zeliangrong people in particular to live in peace and progress with the settlement of the political solution at the earliest.
