The inaugural ‘Rising India, i.e., Bharat’ conclave in Tokyo showcased the vast potential for deeper bilateral ties between India and Japan, emphasizing shared values and economic prospects. Organized by Connect India Japan with support from the Indian Embassy and the Japan-India Association, this event was among Japan’s first major India-focused gatherings, blending cultural diplomacy, business, and policy discussion.
The summit brought together policymakers, diplomats, corporate leaders, and thought influencers from both nations to explore new avenues in diplomacy, technology, trade, and cultural exchange.
In his opening speech, Indian Ambassador to Japan Sibi George reaffirmed India’s strong stance against terrorism and emphasized the importance of resilience and unity for peace and stability. He highlighted India’s ongoing transformative reforms and its strategic journey toward ‘Amrit Kaal,’ alongside the strengthening of the India-Japan Special Strategic and Global Partnership.
Japan’s former Foreign, Defense, and Digital Affairs Minister Taro Kono reflected on India’s rapid ascent as the world’s fourth-largest economy and shared his personal connection to India’s growth story. Former Advisor to Prime Minister Shinzo Abe Tomohiko Taniguchi also paid tribute to Abe’s deep attachment to India and his vision of strengthening India-Japan relations.
High-level panel discussions focused on India’s vibrant growth story and its rising importance on the world stage, emphasizing the role of mutual trust and diplomatic cooperation in nurturing this alliance.
The event also highlighted business opportunities, with corporate leaders showcasing India’s strengths in AI, digital infrastructure, sustainable solutions, and smart manufacturing through live presentations and demonstrations. Japanese partners expressed keen interest in exploring reliable, innovative collaborations in these sectors.
The conclave commenced with a moment of silence to honor the victims of the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, serving as a reminder of ongoing challenges and shared resolve to stand united against terrorism.
Notably, this was the first large-scale India-centric event in Japan curated and hosted entirely by an Indian woman—Nupur Tewari, founder of Connect India Japan—who has dedicated over two decades to fostering cultural bridges and strengthening India-Japan relations.
