
Acting East and opening the doors to connect people of the two neighbouring countries, the India-Myanmar Friendship Road was inaugurated on March 22, 2016.
The newly inaugurated earthen 12/0 mile pavement road would now connect Layshee-Chera- Avangkhu (Nagaland in Phek district). The road in Myanmar falls under LayShee township of the Naga-Self Administered Zone and the road in India falls under Phek district at Avangkhu.
Hundreds of people from neighbouriong villages and officials from both the countries were present at the inaugural programme.
The road construction project which began in 2015, reportedly under the supervision of the Myanmar Border Affairs ministry, was financed by the Government of India.
It may be mentioned that the Naga tribes and their subgroups of Angkul, Nauk-aw, Laing Nang, Hyein Myay, Pain Kuu, Para, Makuri, Smmara, Pon Myo and Kyan Naga live in Homalin township, apart from other townships such as the Khamti township, Lahe township, Layshee township, Tanai township, Nan Yon township and Pan Saung of Sagaing Division.
