New Delhi, June 3 (IANS): Apple has named India-origin app Guitar Wiz as a winner in the inclusivity category at the 2026 Apple Design Awards, recognizing its accessible music experience for users across diverse abilities. Developed by Indian developer Bijoy Thangaraj, the app serves as an all-in-one toolkit for both beginners and experienced guitarists, offering spoken guidance on pitch, chords, and finger placement. Apple said the app was honored for delivering an experience that reflects varied backgrounds, abilities, and languages, helping musicians play with greater independence. The company highlighted Guitar Wiz’s use of accessibility features such as Dynamic Type, Increased Contrast, and Differentiate Without Color, enabling users with different needs to navigate and interact effectively.
Apple described Guitar Wiz as an impactful application that supports musicians of all abilities through accessibility-focused design and intuitive interactions. The recognition was announced alongside winners across categories including innovation, interaction, social impact, delight and fun, and visuals and graphics. Susan Prescott, Apple’s vice president of Worldwide Developer Relations, said this year’s winners reflect how developers are creating exceptional experiences across Apple platforms. The award adds to the growing list of India-origin apps gaining global visibility, with earlier finalists and winners including Lumy, Denim, EVOLVE, and Meditate. Apple also recently introduced new health-focused features for Indian users, such as sleep apnea notifications on Apple Watch and a clinically validated hearing test on AirPods Pro, underscoring its broader push for inclusivity and accessibility.
