Indian Army chief visits Manipur; reviews operational preparedness

Indian Army chief General Upendra Dwivedi reviewed prevailing security situation and operational readiness of Assam Rifles and Army formations in restive Manipur before meeting with Governor Ajay Kumar Balla in Imphal on Wednesday.
The Chief of Army Staff (COAS) was on a one-day visit to the restive state to attend the inauguration of the Imphal Leg of 134th edition Indian Oil Durand Cup.
Dwivedi was briefed “on ground conditions and ongoing initiatives aimed at ensuring peace and security” PRO Defence Manipur, Nagaland and South Arunachal said in a post on X. The COAS visited Manipur “to assess operational preparedness and enhance military-civil cooperation” it added.
Dwivedi also lauded “troops for their professionalism and resilience.”
Later in the day, the COAS along with Army Commander, Eastern Command, General Officer Commanding 3 Corps, and other senior Army officials, called on Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla at Imphal Raj Bhavan.
During the meeting, the Governor extended his heartfelt congratulations to the Army leadership on the successful execution of Operation Sindoor, and commended the Indian Army for its exemplary professionalism, commitment, and tireless efforts in ensuring the security and stability of the region, Raj Bhavan said in a release.
The meeting also included discussions on the commencement of the 134th edition of Durand Cup, commenced in Imphal today. “The Chief of the Army Staff expressed his appreciation to the Governor and the government of Manipur for their continued support and active facilitation in the successful organization of the event” it said. Dwivedi also attended the opening ceremony of the Imphal Leg of 134th edition Indian Oil Durand Cup held at the main stadium of the Khuman Lampak Stadium.
