DIMAPUR: Department of Art & Culture, Government of Nagaland, on June 18, 2026 inaugurated the Naga Indigenous Inn cum Learning Centre at Phesama village, Kohima, marking a significant step towards preserving and promoting Naga indigenous heritage and traditional knowledge systems.
The inauguration ceremony was graced by commissioner & secretary, Art & Culture, Bodeno S. Colo, as special guest. The programme began with unveiling of a commemorative stone monolith and ribbon cutting, followed by a dedicatory prayer offered by Vito o Kuotsu, Associate Pastor, Phesama CRC. It was chaired by Teisovikuolie Therie, deputy director, Art & Culture.
Presenting the technical report, Er. Kakheli Swu, executive engineer, highlighted the project’s objectives and infrastructural features. The event also featured a musical presentation by Neilaü Thaprü.
Speaking on behalf of the executing agency, Metekhriezo Patrick Kuotsu of M/s Delie Metha & Son Enterprise expressed gratitude to the department for entrusting the firm with the project and acknowledged the support of chief minister Dr. Neiphiu Rio and cooperation of stakeholders.
In her address, Colo emphasized the importance of preserving indigenous knowledge, cultural practices and traditional values for future generations. She expressed gratitude to the Ministry of DoNER and North Eastern Council (NEC) for supporting the project, and highlighted the Centre’s potential to promote cultural tourism, indigenous studies, experiential learning and community based economic development.
She also acknowledged the contributions of engineers, architects, village authorities, community leaders and the executing agency for their dedication in completing the project.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Adela Moa, director, Art & Culture, who expressed appreciation to dignitaries, officials and stakeholders for their support. The inauguration of the Centre reflects the government’s continued commitment to safeguarding Nagaland’s rich cultural heritage while creating opportunities for learning, tourism and sustainable community development.
