Induction programme for peace club & eco club conducted at AHSS

Assisi Higher Secondary School (AHSS), Dimapur conducted an induction programme for Peace Club and Eco Club on February 24 at the school premises.
A press release issued by Peace Channel stated that Assam Rifle, transit camp, Dimapur Lieutenant Colonel, Ravi Chettri, was the chief guest of the event.
The chief guest called upon the students to be an agent of peace and maintain healthy competition within themselves and always consider failure as a stepping stone to success. He urged them to respect and honor their teachers, who molded them into a perfect shape, just like a potter who brings out a beautifully carved pot out of the earthen mud.
Resource person of the programme, Peace Channel project coordinator, Livino S Zhimo, presented a brief description about Peace Channel and the importance of peace in school settings to promote peace building and conflict transformation through children. She said that peace is one of the most essential requirements of humanity and a necessary pre-requisite for progress, development and sustainability.
Zhimo emphasized on the main objectives of peace and peace building. Students were also motivated to understand the concept of peace to transfer the culture of violence into culture of peace. She informed the students that peace was not just merely the absence of war but that it was a situation where individuals or group actively collaborate and co-exist in harmony and understanding despite odds. She encouraged the students to be a change maker and an agent of peace for better tomorrow.
She informed that Peace Channel is an emerging youth peace movement, aims to transform society as peace lovers, peace makers and peace promoters and Peace Club is one of the sections where they work with the children educating the students on peace.
She also disclosed the seven commissions under peace club which includes peace commission, sports and games commission, health and hygiene commission, environment commission, social welfare and humanitarian development commission, education commission and finance commission.
Later, vote of thanks was proposed by Merenaro, a student of 10th standard and the session was concluded with a school anthem.
