In pursuance to the State Election Commission Notification, Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) have issued information regarding the Special Summary Revision (SSR) of the Electoral Roll (e-Roll) for respective municipal and town councils.
According to a DIPR report, EROs have notified that SSR of e-Roll would be taken up with reference to January 1, 2024, as the qualifying date as per the schedule indicated as follows: Stages of the schedule date and day, draft publication of electoral roll, March 8; period for lodging claims and objections, March 11-20; period for disposal of claims and objections, March 21-27; period for filing appeal to the appellate authority, March 28 to April 3; disposal of claims and objections by the appellate authority, April 4-6, preparation of the list of amendments after the decision of the appellate authority, April 8-10, and final publication of electoral roll, April 12.
It has been informed that for SSR of e-Roll, the electoral roll as finally published on November 24, 2022, under the now repealed Nagaland Municipal Act 2021 shall be taken as the basis for draft publication purposes, which as indicated in the above schedule, shall be published under rule 6(1) of the Nagaland Municipal election Rules 2023.
EROs have informed that no enumerator(s)/supervisor(s)/sector magistrate(s) etc. would be appointed during the ensuing special summary revision of the electoral roll. The applicant(s) /individual(s)/claimant/objector shall directly apply to the ERO for inclusion/deletion/correction of particulars etc., and required forms for claims and objections will be made available in the office of the respective deputy commissioner/administrator and ERO/Assistant Electoral Registration Office (AERO), after the draft publication of the electoral roll.
EROs have informed that a copy of prepared e-roll has been made available at their respective offices and at offices of AERO for inspection during office hours.
The above notices were separately issued by administrator and ERO of Dimapur Municipal Council, Mokokchung Municipal Council, Mon Town Council, Tseminyu Town Council and Medziphema Town Council.
Meetings for SSR of e-roll
Chozuba: In view of the upcoming Town Council election at Chozuba, Phek, additional deputy commissioner cum administrator of Chozuba Town Council, Dr. Diana Patton held a meeting with political parties on March 7.
During the meeting, the ADC highlighted the rules, procedures and code of conduct of the election and appealed to the public leaders for their cooperation in the conduct of a free and fair election.
