Institutions hold workshops on psychosocial wellness, road safety, skill development

A series of workshops and awareness programmes were held across educational institutions in Nagaland this week, focusing on mental health, road safety, professional development, skill enhancement, and self-care.

Fazl Ali College, MCTE sign MoU for academic collaboration

Fazl Ali College, Mokokchung, and Mokokchung College of Teacher Education (MCTE) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on October 22, 2025, at Fazl Ali College to foster academic collaboration and institutional growth.
The MoU was signed by Dr. I. Wati Imchen, Principal of Fazl Ali College, and Dr. T. Alemla Longkumer, Principal of MCTE. The agreement aims to strengthen ties between the two institutions with a focus on implementing the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 curriculum and undertaking joint programmes in teaching, research, and resource sharing.
As part of the collaboration, both colleges will jointly organise seminars, workshops, and conferences on relevant academic themes. Departments from both institutions will also facilitate faculty and student exchange programmes for joint teaching, research, and capacity-building activities.
Speaking at the event, Dr. I. Wati Imchen described the MoU as a significant milestone and referred to MCTE as a sister college to Fazl Ali College. He expressed optimism that the partnership would lead to shared progress and academic excellence.
Dr. T. Alemla Longkumer, in her remarks, acknowledged Fazl Ali College’s instrumental role in the establishment of MCTE and expressed gratitude for the opportunity to collaborate on academic and developmental initiatives.
The MoU will remain valid as mutually agreed upon by both parties.

Road safety awareness at Kohima College

Kohima College, in collaboration with the Kohima District Road Safety Committee (KDRSC), conducted an awareness programme on road safety at its Conference Hall. The event was chaired by Khrieleü Zumvu, Asst. Prof., History, and member of the Disaster Management Committee. Introductory remarks were delivered by Khriezenuo Angami, HoD and Associate Prof., English, who announced plans to install zebra crossings and safety signage in Kruleizüo Colony. Solevi Metha, DySP (Traffic), Kohima, delivered the keynote address, discussing causes of road accidents and encouraging civic responsibility. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Vezhosa Ringa, Associate Prof., History.

SCC hosts skill workshop

Sao Chang College (SCC), Tuensang, hosted a Skill-Based Chilly Pickle Workshop for B.A. 1st Semester students under the Skill Enhancement Course (SEC). Organised by the Department of Botany, the workshop aimed to foster creativity and entrepreneurship. Resource person Yangtikhum Sangtam demonstrated raw and fried pickle preparation techniques, emphasizing hygiene and preservation. Tekameren Walling, Head of the Department, highlighted the importance of skill-based learning for employability and career growth. A total of 33 students and nine faculty members participated. The session concluded with a vote of thanks by Tongpangkokla Chang, Assistant Professor.

World Food Day 2025 was jointly observed by NIT Manipur and Government Middle School, Pfutseromi, under the global theme “Hand in Hand for Better Foods and a Better Future.” The programme was held as part of NIT Manipur’s project titled “Mainstreaming Agrobiodiversity Conservation for Climate Resilience and Sustainable Livelihoods,” sponsored under the National Mission on Himalayan Studies (NMHS) by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEF&CC), Government of India, through the G.B. Pant National Institute of Himalayan Environment.
The event focused on raising awareness about sustainable food systems, promoting local crop diversity, and encouraging kitchen gardening as key strategies to ensure food security and enhance rural livelihoods.
Organisers expressed hope that the initiative would inspire community-level efforts toward climate resilience and sustainable agricultural practices.

Dimapur Government College (DGC) hosted a one-day State level workshop on “Beauty, Self-Care and Wellness” on October 22, organised by the Skill Development Committee in collaboration with IQAC. Chairperson Kilangsungla Pongener, Asst. Prof., Education, introduced the session. Resource person HukaliAvito Swu, makeup artist and beauty educator, conducted demonstrations on makeup, facial, waxing, hairstyling, and threading. Students from the college’s Beauty Crash Course assisted in the demonstrations. The session was interactive and well-received by the 54 participants.

Pranab College organises talk

At Pranab College, Dimapur, the Women Development Cell in collaboration with the District Mental Health Programme (DMHP), District Hospital Dimapur, organised a talk on “The Impact of Psychosocial issues among Students.”
Resource person Dr. Temsuyanger, SMO (Psychiatrist), DMHP, highlighted key challenges such as peer pressure, bullying, mobile game addiction, and self-imposed stress. He encouraged students to adopt healthy habits like time management, spiritual well-being, and realistic goal-setting. The session concluded with a Q&A. An ice-breaker laughter therapy was conducted by Mhiephronguno Khate, Clinical Psychologist (DMHP). The programme was moderated by Dr. Alomi Cynthia Shikhu, Asst. Prof., Sociology, with the welcome address delivered by Rina Anal, Asst. Prof., Education.

WGC hosts PDP for faculty members

Wangkhao Government College (WGC), Mon, held a one-day Professional Development Programme (PDP) for faculty members on October 21, organised by the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC). Resource person Rev. Dr. Ellen Konyak Jamir, Associate Prof., Pastoral Counselling & Psychotherapy, Oriental Theological Seminary, spoke on workplace stress triggers and coping strategies. She emphasized empathy, communication, and selflessness in professional settings. Participants engaged in group discussions and presentations on institutional growth. Principal Dr. Tialila, in her welcome address, stressed the importance of continuous adaptation in higher education.
