Institutions in Longleng declared ‘tobacco free’

In an effort to strictly implement National Tobacco Control Programme (NTCP) within Longleng district, the district has decided to implement “Tobacco free office” in all government offices and to declare “tobacco free schools”.
According to a DIPR report, the decision was taken during a meeting of District Level Coordinator Committee (DLCC) with regard to National Tobacco Control Programme (NTCP) on April 17 at the Conference Hall of Deputy Commissioner (DC) Longleng office under the chairmanship of DC and NTCP chairman Longleng, Dharam Raj.
In regard to implementing “Tobacco free office”, the house has directed all government establishments to implement the same within 100 days from the date of notification. The house also resolved to establish “Tobacco Control Cell” in all government offices under Longleng district administrative headquarters.
The meeting also decided to declare tobacco free schools by observing all the norms laid down under Tobacco Free Educational Institutions (ToFEI) guidelines.
The house has also directed all educational institutions to formally registered complaints to district level enforcement squad against shops selling tobacco within 100 yards. It also decided to take stringent action against shops and those selling tobacco to minors below 18 years.
The house resolved to form active members or volunteers within the schools and college to assist the respective educational institutions to tackle the use of tobacco.
Among other resolutions, the house also resolved to create a “smoking zone in no smoking zone areas”; to write to all village councils to comply with the order; to reward institutions scoring 90% under the tobacco free educational institutions guidelines; to write a letter to the government of Nagaland to include Longleng under Nashad Mukh Bharat Abhiyan.
