Int day against drug abuse observed

Along with the rest of the world, the Nagaland Excise department organized a programme to mark the international day against drug abuse and illicit trafficking.
At Dimapur, the programme was held at the conference hall of the Excise Department, Dimapur on the theme "a fight to the finish" where KV Assumi, additional commissioner of excise said that the excise department should commit oneself to their job as a law enforcing agencies.
Terming that the excise personnel were "missionaries in action" he appealed the personnel to provide service for protecting the welfare of the societies.
The personnel also pledge not to compromise with drug smugglers and traffickers in any manners nor succumb to any pressure, threat or favor but that they would resist to the extend of sacrificing their lives to put those behind bars.
At Shalom Rehabilitation Centre, Chumukedima the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking was held on the theme "Do drugs control your life? Your life. Your community. No place for drugs."
Neihu C. Thur, Secretary, Social Welfare, who was the chief guest emphasized the need to have a vision in life and the purpose for which we have all been created that is to bring life, light and meaning to our lives. He spoke at length on Drugs and Youth and the need to curb this menace of drug addiction for a better society. He rightly pointed out the need to have God fearing attitude, openness to learn things positively and as young people at the threshold of achieving greater goals to aim at their goals with self discipline. Rev. Jose Mukala, Bishop of Kohima was the guest of honour.
At Tseminyu, the day was jointly organized by the Youth Mission, Nagaland and Government of Nagaland in association with Tseminyu Town Council and local churches on the theme ‘Is Drugs controlling your life, your community?’, ‘No place for drugs – Drug cultivation and production’.
Speaking on the significance of the day, president, Youth Mission Nagaland, Rev. Dr. Thupu-o Nyekha said the effect of drug abuse goes far beyond the individual’s concern and does incalculable harm to society in health, social and economy, including the spread of HIV/AIDS and drug cultivation and production in the state.
IGP, Narcotic, Bendangtoshi, IPS also spoke about trafficking of drugs and gave some statistical details on how far the Narcotic Department has succeeded in controlling the trafficking. Others who spoke on the occasion were Project Director, NSACS, Dr. Neiphi Kire, Additional Director, Social Welfare, Khevito T. Shohe, Pastor Haiwalo Apon, Dillo a recovering drug addict and President Rengma Mothers Association, Kelisha.
The programme was chaired by ADC, Tseminyu, Wezope Kenye and vote of thanks was proposed by President, Rengma Hoho, Kegwanyu Lorene.
At Wokha the day was observed at Etchuchukha Colony Wokha Town. The Program was organized by ‘Wokha Users Community’ and supported by Agape Youth Welfare Organization AYWO with the theme; "do drugs control your life? your life, your community. no place for drugs".
The programme was chaired by Chipen Murry, general secretary, ‘Wokha Users Community’ where Vantsomo Lotha, president ‘Wokha Users Community’ let the gathering with serenity prayer. Today’s program was graced by Mr. Lithungo Kikon, District Statistical Officer (DSO) as Chief Guest. While the Chief Guest speaking at the function encouraged upon the recovery addicts as well as the current users to aim and to raise awareness of the major problem & Crime that may control communities and inspire people, to mobilize and to support for drug control. Further he donated handsome amount towards the ‘Users Community’. Other highlights of today’s program include ‘Carom Championship’ with a cash prize to the winners which was supported by AYWO Wokha.
