Integrated Farming System (IFS) model launched in Changtongya

ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Nagaland Centre has launched a project “Promotion of Fisheries based Integrated Farming System (IFS) model for livelihood improvement” at Changtongya village on February 22.
SDO (C) Changtongya sub-division, Rorheu Peseyie who graced the launching programme as chief guest, applauded ICAR Nagaland centre for implementing the project in Changtongya and assured full co-operation to make the project successful.
He also requested the farmers to actively involve in the programme.
The SDO also distributed various inputs like, maize seed (HQPM-5), Green gram seed (Pratap),vermibeds and fertilizers to the farmers.
Delivering welcome address, scientist (Fisheries) and principal Investigator of the project, Jyotish Barman highlighted the objectives of the project and the possible outcome envisaged by the team. In order to achieve the objectives, he urged the local people and the beneficiaries to cooperate and work with enthusiasm and dedication.
Chairman, Changtongya village council, Tiasunep Longkumer expressed hope that the launching of the project was at the right time and adoption of integrated farming system for sustainability was the need of the hour. He assured the gathering that the team will get full support from the villagers.
Member of Changtongya village council, Chubalepzuk Longkumer also expressed gratefulness in selecting Changtongya for implementation of the project.
Tiatemsu Longkumer, the liasioning member shared the genesis leading to implementing of the project and expressed willingness infavour of the beneficiaries to adopt new technologies for development of IFS model in the village.
Principal scientist (Agronomy), Dr Lohit K. Baishya in his brief speech explained about various components of IFS models, resource conservation technologies, etc with special reference to the district and environment. He requested all the farmers for their active involvement in the project with full co-operation and mutual understanding. At the launching programme, an awareness programme on the project was also conducted by a team of scientists- Dr.Lohit K. Baishya, Jyotish Barman and senior technical assistant, Meren Jamir with the attendance of 75 villagers.
Later, the ICAR team along with the SDO (C) visited the farmers’ field and discussed various issues related to development of IFS model.
Meanwhile, the ICAR team also conducted a training on “Promotion of Scientific Cultivation of Maize” in Longleng involving 31 farmers; another training on “Promotion of Scientific Cultivation of Maize” in Baghty village (Wokha) on February 25.
