The Inter-State Weekly Market was inaugurated on Saturday at the Agriculture Produce Market Committee (APMC) complex, Wokha, with the aim to promote regional trade and local organic produce between Nagaland and Assam.
SDO (Civil) Wokha, Echungbemo Erui, who graced the event, said the market would empower farmers and strengthen the district’s economy. He urged vendors to maintain the integrity of organic produce and called on the public to support local growers. He assured full support from the administration to the trading community.
Nagaland State Agricultural & Livestock Marketing Board (NSAPLMB) managing director and CEO, Jacob Yanthan, thanked traders from Assam for their cooperation. He said the market would help share farm products across regions and reduce reliance on distant sources.
He also said the initiative would enhance friendship and boost the economy of both states.
Assam trader representative, Sahidur Rahaman, appreciated the support from Wokha and urged for smooth transport of goods without obstruction.
Organic vegetables and fruits from Wokha and Longkhum, along with produce from Assam, were sold on the first day.
Goods were also exchanged between the two regions by truck.
The market will be held every Saturday from 7 a.m. at APMC Wokha near NH-61.
