An interface meeting for formation and promotion of Farmers Producer Organisation (FPOs) was conducted by College of Veterinary Sciences and Animal Husbandry (CVS&AH) Central Agricultural University (CAU) Jalukie, Tuesday.
A press release by the college informed that the CVS&AH Jalukie, a constituent college under Central Agricultural University (CAU) Imphal conducted the interface meeting for the purpose of identifying the problems faced by the already existing FPOs, understand the functioning of FPOs and for formation of new sustainable FPOs in the state of Nagaland.
The release informed that the department of agriculture & farmers welfare, ministry of agriculture, government of India has selected the CAU Imphal as the implementing Agency (IA) for formation and promotion of fresh 100 FPOs in NER (except Assam) under the Central Sector Scheme for formation & promotion of 10000 FPOs in the country.
On the occasion, the college dean, Dr. I. Shakuntala briefed the participants about the program while deputy director, extension education, CAU, Dr. Dipak Nath briefed on the role of CAU in formation of FPOs in NEH region.
Principal scientist and head Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Peren, Dr. K. L. Meena briefed the members present on the number of FPOs formed under the initiative of KVK Peren in various agri and allied sector in different blocks of Peren District.
Dr. Meena discussed on importance of sustainable development goals while forming the FPOs taking into account the future course of action for maximum benefit for the people of the region.
Deputy director of agriculture, Jalukie, Dr. Beremjungla stressed the need to streamline the FPO prior registration to avoid duplicacy through Cluster-Based Business Organisations (CBBOs) so that purpose intended for formation of FPO was achieved.
Chairman Jalukie Pumling Nko, Kumui Iring appreciated the initiative taken by department of agriculture as well as KVK Peren for taking up active role in formation of FPO on agri-and allied sector in Peren district. Iring welcomed the step taken by CAU-Imphal and Veterinary college, Jalukie and appraised the need to form FPO in the area of livestock production for the benefit of the people.
The program concluded by vote of thanks by assistant professor, department of livestock production management, Dr. Imtiwati.
