International Day of Plant Health observed at IETC

Department of Agriculture observed International Day of Plant Health at Integrated Extension Training Centre (IETC), Medziphema on May 12. Observed under the theme “Plant Health, Safe Trade and Digital Technology,” principal Integrated Extension Training Centre and director SAMETI, Dr. Watimongla Jamir reminded the staff and public to safeguard biodiversity and promote the importance of plant health in all walks of life so as to ensure a safer and sustainable environment for the present and future generations.


In commemoration of Plant Health Day, tree bean (Parkia Roxburghii) saplings treated with biofertilizers- Azotobacter, Rhizobium and Phosphotika and Biofungicides – Trichoderma herzanium were planted in the IETC demonstration farm.


Also Tricho cards (egg parasitoids) trichogramma chilonis and trichogramma pretiosum were released in the maize field for management of maize pests like stem borer and FAW. The event was organized along with public to raise awareness on plant health to ensure food safety and safe trade for sustainable economy and livelihood.
