KOHIMA/DIMAPUR, JUN 22 (NPN): Department of Youth Resources & Sports, Nagaland, along with several institutions and organisations, observed the 12th International Day of Yoga under the theme “Yoga for Healthy Ageing.”
KOHIMA: At Indira Gandhi Stadium, Kohima, the Department of Youth Resources & Sports organised a yoga session with participation from members of NSS, NCC, Bharat Scouts & Guides, students of the Sports Academy and departmental officials. Yoga instructor Lawrence led the session, highlighting the significance of the theme and stressing that regular practice promotes fitness, peace of mind and overall well being.
NEISSR: North East Institute of Social Sciences and Research (NEISSR) observed the day through an online Family Yoga Sangam via Google Meet. NSS volunteer Yangten C. Phom delivered an address on the holistic benefits of yoga, while volunteer Aziya Yimchunger guided participants through practices suitable for all age groups. The programme emphasised yoga’s role in nurturing physical fitness, mental clarity and emotional balance.
RARC: The Regional Ayurveda Research Centre (RARC), Dimapur commemorated the day with “Yoga Sangam” programmes at MGM College and Lions Club Midland. Research Officer in charge, Dr. Dipsundar Sahu, spoke on the theme “From Stress to Strength”, highlighting yoga’s transformative role in mental resilience and healthy living. Certified instructor Rita Singh conducted sessions demonstrating practices for physical and mental well being. Around 100 participants actively took part in the programmes.
Niuland: Meanwhile, the District Youth Resources & Sports Office (DYSRO), Dimapur, I/C Niuland, observed the International Day of Yoga at GHS Zuheshe, Niuland district, under the global theme.
ICFAI: ICFAI University Nagaland organised a workshop on “Yoga: For Mind–Body Wellness” on June 20 to mark International Day of Yoga 2026. The session, conducted by Dr. Sumanta Kumar Mahapatra, Assistant Professor, saw active participation from faculty members and staff.
ASSAM RIFLES: Assam Rifles also commemorated the 12th International Day of Yoga by organising mass yoga sessions on June 21 across Nagaland, including Mon Headquarters, Battalion Headquarters Shamator, Tactical Headquarters Noklak, Tuensang, Kiphire, Mokokchung and all Company/Tactical Operating Bases.
Officers, JCOs, troops, families, students and NCC/NSS cadets participated enthusiastically in the celebrations held under the theme “Yoga for Healthy Ageing.” The sessions comprised various asanas, pranayama and meditation practices conducted under the guidance of trained instructors, who also highlighted the health benefits and precautions associated with different postures.
At Kiphire, around 300 Assam Rifles personnel and 80 NCC/NSS cadets of Zisaji Presidency College joined the programme, while similar sessions were held at Tuensang, Mokokchung and Mon with active participation from troops, families and students.
The programmes promoted physical fitness, mental resilience, emotional balance and stress management, encouraging participants to adopt yoga as a way of life for holistic wellness.
During both programmes, emphasis was laid on the significance of the International Day of Yoga and the importance of integrating yoga into daily life to achieve physical, mental and emotional balance.
Across Nagaland, the observances reflected collective commitment to promoting yoga as a discipline for healthy ageing, holistic wellness and community unity.
