International Youth Day celebrated at NEISSR Chümou

International Youth Day 2025 was commemorated at North East Institute of Social Sciences and Research (NEISSR), 7th Mile Chümoukedima on August 14. The event was organized by the District Integrated Strategy for HIV/AIDS (DISHA), Dimapur, Nagaland State AIDS Control Society (NSACS) in collaboration with the United Riders Motorcycle Club and the Red Ribbon Club (RRC), NEISSR in view of 6th National Social Work Week under the theme “Local Youth Actions for the SDGs: Preventing HIV and Promoting Health.”
In her keynote address, medical officer at the ART Centre, Chümoukedima, Dr. Susanna Kikon, highlighted the concerning status of HIV in Nagaland, which ranks second in HIV prevalence among adults in India. She emphasized the vulnerability of individuals in the 15–49 age group, many of whom are unaware of their HIV status. Dr. Kikon reiterated the importance of early testing, awareness, and the free availability of Antiretroviral Therapy (ART), while stressing the ABC approach — Abstain before marriage, Be faithful to one’s partner, and Correct and consistent condom use. She called for an end to the stigma and discrimination surrounding HIV and underlined the need for compassion and community solidarity.
Speaking at the programme, principal, NEISSR and director of peace channel, Dr. Fr. C.P. Anto exhorted the youth to rise to their collective responsibility in fighting the epidemic and promoting public health. “We face a battle that is stealing futures quietly but relentlessly,” he said, urging stakeholders to transform schools and colleges into centers of awareness and change. He called on churches, NGOs, academic institutions, and government bodies to act together in fostering a healthier and more informed society. “The time to act is not someday, but today,” he emphasized, urging young people to pledge their commitment to sustainable development and health equity.
President, United Riders Motorcycle Club, Moatemsu, delivered a passionate message calling on youth to create awareness for a better tomorrow. The moment was further reinforced through a rendition of Amazing Grace performed by club member Linkhai.
Earlier, the welcome address was delivered by vice principal and Administrator, Rev. Fr. G.L. Khing and invocation by Dr. Toli H. Kiba. The programme also featured a special song performance by Zipise Sangtam. The proceedings were chaired by Elizabeth Pojar, Assistant Professor, NEISSR.
